♨️Southern Smothered Chicken👩‍🍳✅Ingredients* 4 bone-in, skinless chicken thighs* 4 chicken drumsticks* 1 teaspoon salt* 1 teaspoon black pepper* 1 teaspoon paprika* 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder* 1/2 cup all-purpose flour* 3 tablespoons vegetable oil* 1 medium onion, sliced* 2 cloves garlic, minced* 3 cups chicken broth* 1 cup whole milk* 2 tablespoons butter* 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce* 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme* 1/2 teaspoon onion powder* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper✅Instructions1. Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Dredge each piece lightly in the flour, shaking off the excess.2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the chicken for 4–5 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate.3. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter. Add the sliced onion and cook for 5–7 minutes until softened and lightly golden. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.4. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of the remaining seasoned flour into the skillet. Stir constantly for 1–2 minutes to make a roux.5. Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk until smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.6. Return the chicken to the skillet, spooning some gravy over each piece. Cover and simmer over low heat for 30–35 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and cooked through.7. Remove the lid and simmer for another 5 minutes if the gravy needs to thicken. Taste and adjust the seasoning.8. Serve the smothered chicken hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or homemade biscuits, with plenty of the creamy onion gravy spooned over the top.
