- 8 slices thick-cut bread (Texas toast, sourdough, or white bread)
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 slices mozzarella, provolone, or Monterey Jack cheese
- Optional: pinch of garlic powder or Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 3–5 minutes.
- Butter the bread
- Spread softened butter on one side of each bread slice.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle a little garlic powder on the buttered side.
- Assemble the sandwiches
- Place cheese between two slices of bread with the buttered sides facing outward.
- Use a mix of cheeses for the best melt and flavor.
- Air fry
- Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Cook at 370°F (188°C) for 4–5 minutes.
- Carefully flip and cook another 3–4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve
- Let rest for 1 minute before slicing.
- Serve with tomato soup, pickles, or a side salad.
Tips
- If the bread is lightweight, secure it with toothpicks for the first few minutes of cooking.
- Add cooked bacon, ham, or sliced tomatoes for a heartier sandwich.
- For extra gooey grilled cheese, use a combination of cheddar and mozzarella.
