Turkish bread recipe

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1½ cups (360 ml) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Filling

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

For Brushing

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Add warm water and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the Flatbreads

  1. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces.
  2. Roll each piece into a thin circle (about 8 inches/20 cm).
  3. Place cheese filling in the center.
  4. Fold and seal the edges, then gently roll again into a flat round.

3. Cook

  1. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Cook each flatbread for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown with toasted spots.
  3. Brush with melted butter while hot.

4. Serve

Serve warm and enjoy as is, or with:

  • Honey
  • Yogurt
  • Olives
  • Fresh tomatoes and cucumbers
